There are two tunes for this hymn – one of them was adapted by Johann Sebastian Bach!
I knew Bach was a prolific composer – he used to write new compositions for church on a regular basis and once they had been performed, they were repurposed as napkins for his lunch! I guess I always thought he would only ever want to perform his original works, but why SHOULDN’T he perform the odd cover of someone else’s tune that he liked? That was such a revelation for me! What do you think of his handiwork?
